Re: Clutch or Transmission help

Well Thought I would give an update on my clutch or transmission issues. Removed the tranny and clutch to find a nice grease coating on the internals of the bell housing. Tranny input shaft seemed a little loose, but I'm no expert so called the man that rebuilt it for me several years ago.......he d...

Re: Clutch or Transmission help

Thank you for our advice. Guess Ill have to drop the tranny and clutch to find out what the issue may be. I feel confident inspecting the clutch parts for damage but not so much on the tranny input bearing. It will not be an easy job and its cold on the garage floor right now. These old bones don't ...

Re: Clutch or Transmission help

I'll try to to answer your questions as best I can. The loud noise only occurs when the clutch is depressed. I am getting some whirring sound letting off the throttle at highway speeds or just revving the engine while sitting in neutral , but not nearly the noise as when depressing the clutch for re...

Re: Clutch or Transmission help

Lou's comet, Noise is hard to explain as stated in my first post. Very loud like nothing I have heard before. Not a squeal or grinding sound. Much lowerfrequency. Vicegrip, Hard to believe it is wear at 1000 mi but could have broken something. It is a three lever arm design clutch. Appreciate your i...

Re: Clutch or Transmission help

I suppose it would be considered lower cost, but was bought at a reputable local rebuilder.

Re: 65 wheel lip chrome trim

The key word in there is decent rocker trim for a Cyclone. Evidently Mercury did not have seat belt recoils on their belts in the 60's, either that or mine were not functioning for some time. My rocker trim is thoroughly beat by what appears to be metal buckle marks below the rear of the door openin...

Re: Speedometer accuracy

The car was originally a 289/c4 but is now a 302/T10 4 speed. So the axle appears to be original but from there on who knows. Even the speedo was replaced, as I recall it was an automatic donor car. The car appears to have been assembled from many donors just to resale it. Over 50 years I doubt that...

Re: Speedometer accuracy

I am running 215/65/15 Goodyears. Should be a 26" diameter. Running a 3:00 to 1 rear ratio. Doing the calculations If I have a 7 tooth drive gear I'll need a 16 tooth driven and if I have a 6 tooth drive gear I'll need a 14 tooth driven gear. I haven't found any driven gears of the right tooth yet s...

Re: Speedometer accuracy

Plan to re-install the tach this winter, but am not all that certain it is accurate either. And the wife runs the GPS, that is how I know I'm actually running 72 when the speedo says 60.......and we still get lost

Re: Speedometer accuracy

No worries. I spend a great deal of my time in a state of confusion with or without help  . It looks as though you are correct Cometchero , it may be more complicated than just a gear change. I'll take a look at the tranny drive gear the next time the car is in the air to confirm that. Until th...

Re: Speedometer accuracy

Poboyjo65 I apologize, I did not go far enough down on the page to see the formula. Guess I'll have to jack it back up ( I hate jacking it up and putting it on stands....takes longer than the work needed sometimes  ) and look in the tranny for the drive gear. Thank you all for your support!
