Re: 66 Comet..Modifying shock tower for header clearance?

I would grind that uca bolt shorter and the nut thinner to match for a little extra room. I would try to get the other tube as far from the steering box as possible. All that heat so close will just heat up the box and speed up the grease drying out and getting hard. that grease gets hard under nor...

Re: GT40P screwup

Glad they fit. I would not think a couple of well placed dimples in the tubes would hurt anything. See Ya, Mike I've got my fingers crossed. That part # FRPP heads is for a Fox 'Stang right? The biggest problem I see is how you're going to do an alignment if you can't loosen that nut for the upper ...

Re: 66 Comet..Modifying shock tower for header clearance?

The headers weren't that expensive.... Around $300! So another reason pounding on them is not so scary. :D

Re: GT40P screwup

Thanks for the replies! I do have an update on the headers though.....the ones I have did fit! I removed the motor mount bolts and lifted from the drivers side of the motor as high as i could go. That allowed the room to get it between the shock tower and the head. There are two places where it is v...

I found this video.

LOL! The thought crossed my mind! I suppose a 1/4" dent the size of a 50 cent piece shouldn't be too radical. :D

Yep. Although I don't know which options made it a Capri. I love it because it's a 2dr hard top. :D

Re: 66 Comet..Modifying shock tower for header clearance?

This engine setup is what the 5.0 mustang guys use. I thought being a larger car that it would fit my '66. WRONG! So rather than change the heads and start over I'm trying to get it to fit. If I can't make it work then I'll start over. I did not look to see what that bolt attaches to. I'll look tomo...

Re: 66 Comet..Modifying shock tower for header clearance?

Well I got the header on! I removed the motor mount bolts and lifted the drivers side of the motor until I had the room to get the header on. I installed the gasket and barely tightened the front and rear bolts. Then I lowered the motor back onto the mounts and made sure the holes lined up and the h...

Re: 66 Comet..Modifying shock tower for header clearance?

Awesome thanks Mike!

Now I can resize my photos below 256 KB with my resize program, upload to photobucket and then link to them. Should I edit what I have done or just remember this for future posts?

GT40P screwup

Well, I think I screwed the pooch on my choice of heads for my 302 in my '66. I ASSUMED (I deserve what I got) that the engine compartment would accommodate the headers. The passenger side header fits great, but the drivers side looks to be about 2" shy of fitting. In the event I decide NOT to modif...

Re: 66 Comet..Modifying shock tower for header clearance?

Got it! Thanks. Here is the fit problem. http://i1255.photobucket.com/albums/hh636/1966CometCapri/1966%20Comet%202Dr%20HT/Comet%203_zpsp61qaauv.jpg Of course the header flange has to go waaaay down there and I'm about 1-2 inches from fitting using a measuring tape. I have considered heating and bend...
