Re: Lavron's '64 Build Thread

Mike your figuring it out just fine. That was a good practice dent to play with. I would have just filled that one and been done with it. I would weld in the 1/4" filler rod around the wheel arch before pulling along the body line. If you grab the stud at the head with needle nose vice grips and twi...

Re: Lavron's '64 Build Thread

Mike I did the same repair on my Falcon I used the machine in the attached video it worked great. Since your using a stud style puller it will take longer but the video shows the technique. Start at the ends three or four studs at a time and work towards the center. If you end up with a line of rais...

Re: Lavron's '64 Build Thread

Hi Mike progress looks good. There are some good Weber carb forums out there for rebuilding and jetting info. If your running a progressive linkage on the carbs you don't really need to synchronize them. If they aren't progressive you can use a 4 dail just hook up three and ignore the fourth. It wil...

Sassy had mentioned a paste to keep your die grinder burr from loading up when carving aluminum. I've been using a bar of Dove soap for ever. Its looking really good Mike keep it up.

Re: Lavron's '64 Build Thread

Mike I think the JB Weld will fail near the exhaust ports. I once tried an intake manifold repair with it on a 223 in a f100. The intake manifold had cracked where the intake mates to the exhaust right under the carb. The JB Weld did not handle the heat and boy did it stink.

Re: Lavron's '64 Build Thread

Mike, I could be wrong but I'm thinking the V6 is balanced differently which would not be good. I had a 351C once that I put a 240 six flywheel on it fit and bolted right up and ran good and no shake or rattle that I could tell. It only took about 3,000 miles to beat out the front main bearing and d...

Re: Lavron's '64 Build Thread

Hey Mike, I went back to my 250 build thread on Fordsix.com to see what the final deck cut was. I took .060" off the deck and just skimmed the head.

Re: Lavron's '64 Build Thread

Mike you really want your braces to be solid not bushed. Any flex is unwanted and will fatigue the metal at stress points.
What are your plans on the engine build. Do your research and have a recipe when you drop it off.

Re: Lavron's '64 Build Thread

Here is a pic of my 302 for your reference. The only thing I used on my 250 was the studded main bolt. I cut my pickup tube 1" or so from the flange and welded in a 1/2" steel tube from Home Depot, made a support strap and welded that to the tube then tacked the pickup end on and adjusted it to 3/4"...

Re: Lavron's '64 Build Thread

I screwed my pan to a piece of 3/4" plywood before starting any cutting or welding. I should have taken the time to drill all the holes and bolt it on. It ended up slightly off and needed massaging for all the bolts to line back up on the block. All of the welds on my pan are lap welds.
