And just like that, ole John has popped the top off of an "authentic" can o' worms... according to Mannel every 1965 289 4v had Gold valve covers and air breather EXCEPT as John notes, the Comet (Yellow) and Comet Cyclone (Argent - Silver) and of course the HiPo's in all models (Chrome).poboyjo65 wrote:The motor being the wrong color (should be yellow breather & v covers) would make me want to look over it in person before I flopped down a bunch of cash. but 15k doesn't seem to unrealistic, values are coming up.
For the record 1965 - 289 2v on Fairlane, Falcon, and Falcon Sprint were all Gold as was Full Size Ford and Mustang.
So maybe the engine was swapped with any of these, or maybe somebody did a touch up and picked the wrong color (which would be easy to mistake) since just about EVERY other 289 was Gold.
Either way, definitely worth a closer look before plunking down the big cash (if you're banking on originality).
