Not idling down in 3 gear

Post by frankie.williams »

Hello all question
When I shift to 3rd gear on 1960 comet it’s not idling down. What can the problem be ?

Thanx

did this start all of a sudden ?or has it been an on coming event,,,,is the carpet wadded up or is it a carb issue, like a hung up acc pedal or a weak return spring....it's hard to tell from down here in ARK, without just a tad more info...pop

If it is a three on the column (which I am assuming it is) look under the hood at the bottom of the steering column where the shift arms come out they would have to be contacting something causing the high idle.

I can't think the accelerator linkage and the shift linkage could ever come in contact but who knows  they should not in stock form.

My only other thought is a bad mount on the engine or transmission is shifting the engine causing it to move and pulling the linkage longer, again like Pops said it is shooting in the dark without seeing it or having more info.

See Ya,
Mike
