BACK SEAT BELTS

Apparently it looks like my '62 Mercury Comet Custom did not have BACKseat seat belts in it originally??

Probably not, seatbelts were an option up until maybe '66-'67, My '64 has never had seat belts front or rear, there are spots for them to attach however.

I tried to find out when the law was passed for seat belts but couldn't find any info. I'm sure the five 64 Galaxies that I've owned all had belts. But they weren't economy cars either. I cannot remember if my 62 Comet did. My 61 Falcon didn't.

MY 64 comet had seat belts,,while I was re-doing it many yrs ago,,I loaned them to a guy so he could match up him a set...HE never brought them back and I can't recall who he is or was!!,,,,,but it for sure had them,,one of the eve bolts are still in it

According to the 64 Comet sales brochure they were an option in 64. I believe it was about $3.50 or something like that.

Seatbelts were optional in Fords from 56 thru 67. They became mandatory/standard equipment in 68. Seat belts becoming mandatory in 68 was the first federal regulation in the Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards.

62 Comets had front seat belts as a option, rear seat belts were not offered.
