66-67 comets still out there

Post by fryedaddy »

i wonder how many 66-67 comets still exist.scrap medal was at a all time high a few years ago,i saw a 66 comet on a rollback a few years ago on its way to the crusher.i was on my way to work or i would have stopped him and tried to buy it. i wonder if the number left is in the thousands, hundreds,or maybe just a few dozen.any thoughts on this?

I have seen only one other 202 in the 5 years that I have owned mine. Guess folks didn't think they were worth saving being a regular ol sedans. They didn't make many either.

I've had the same experience with other Comets of that same vintage, (only one--a 202 4-dr.), although I've seen a lot of 66-67 Fairlanes up here in Maine.
My wife says I only have 2 faults. I don't listen...and something else

Some of the Ford and Merc bodies are more appealing to me in the post model. A for instance; I recently saw my first either 202 or 404 64 2 door Comet, it really struck me. There is a 66 2 door post car here in Fla. but even the bad pictures show a lot of rot so I haven't driven to look at it.

I use the website below to keep tabs on what is out there - it's a great tool, so sharing with the community with the hopes you might find it useful. It searches every Craigslisting within the search radius you specify. I use 1000 miles for 1967 mercury comet - only 1 hit.

I have a 1967 comet cyclone convertible. It needs some work. It's a 390 automatic on the floor bucket seats. They are worth saving. If you need more info. let me know.

Thanks

I've been advertising rust free 66/67 parts for years on this forum and heard nothing but crickets. I have the front ends, rear clips, doors, fenders, Cyclone hood, deck lids, quarter panels, grills, bumpers from 3 western cars. (two four eight) 867-3522. You gotta call. I only check in a few times a year (like everyone else)

BTW....with so little traffic on this site, why do we need so many different headings/categories? Seems like all new posts could be put in one place.

Howdy everyone, I still have my 66 202. It was my great grandfathers last car and my grandfather gave it to me when I was 15. It was made the year I was born. It is black with red interior, has a 200 inline 6 with a C4. 80,000 original miles. It runs and drives but is in terrible condition, having sat for years at a time in Florida.....now lives in Jackson, WY. To much sentimental attachment to junk, but if someone wanted it, I will consider all offers over $1000. Except for a couple AAMCO transmissions, tires, and batteries, this car is original as you can get. It even has the comet glass washer fluid bottle. Stay tuned for some pics....

I have a 66 Mercury comet Caliente 4 door I am working on with my boys. It is rough shape it is missing the windshield rear window and back drivers side window. Interior has das and gauges that’s it also has the inline 6 and c4 transmission I believe. I am wanting to put a 302 in it but still needs lots of work.

Have a bronze 66 caliente convertible out on the West Coast. It's been a great driver since I bought it 4 years ago. Ready to be touched up a bit, but I'm not getting into a restoration until my kids are grown and out of the house. Apparently, there's so few left that a guy approached me one day while I was at the beach with it and swore up and down that my car use to belong to his dad or uncle. He'd never seen another one on the road until he ran into mine.

They are still out there! I have 1966 Comet Cyclone Pace car convertible that is all present ready for a full restoration. Floors need to be replaced, engine needs to go, but power top works, fiberglass hood nice and camera case dash tach all there. Stored in my warehouse, just waiting for it's chance. Many of these 60's Comets are still in Junk yards....regular 202, Caliente, even wagons...they are becoming popular and some body panels are not available.
