66 Comet Fiberglass Hood Soft Springs

Post by NYC65GTX »

I am putting a stock fiberglass hood on my 66 comet. I am looking for a set of soft springs. I been told by a couple of people that the 1968 Mustang soft springs would work, has anyone every tried them or knows some one that did. I would also be looking to by a factory set if i could find them at a good price

Seems like even with stock springs there's a risk of bending warping and cracking a fiberglass hood.
I have an original glass hood too but I'll be using just a prop rod like this one

I have 2 sets of the original 66 cyclone gt hood hinges with springs.
What is a set worth to you?

I use these on my '66 Fairlane with fiberglass hood as well as many other '66-'67 Fairlane owners. http://www.cobranda.com/litehosp.html

Can anyone provide the length of the correct spring for the 66 GT fiberglass hood.

These might work. My 67 GT500 has a fiberglass hood with springs. Same length as steel hood springs just softer and smaller diameter. What are the measurements of the steel hood springs for a 66 Comet.

To clarify I am not looking to buy. When I purchased my car there were a bunch of different springs in a box. Trying to figure out if any of them are the correct ones. Anyone that has a original car the measurements of the springs would be appreciated.

I have a shout out to a friend who has a set and I’ll get back as soon as I get an answer.

My friend who has three 66 bb cyclones says his measure 7”, basically same size as standard, but thinner metal. So it sounds like if you look at the springs you have they’d be the ones that are thinner material. Hope this helps.
