Thought I would post this here because it is really not an engine specific question but applies to any.

Piston rings, you guys suggest regular or Moly rings? And probably don't have to say this, but why?

See Ya,
Mike

Moly rings are definitely better, last longer, less friction, better sealing....ONLY if the hone is correct and piston clearances are good, gaps are correct. If you're using a dingle ball hone on a no rebore glazed cyl, cast rings are best IMO. Cast has a better chance of seating if the cyl are imperfect.

I have been reading about Moly rings taking forever to seat, but it may be for the reasons you cited.

I will have the machine shop hone the cylinders for me I just need to make sure what rings before/when I get the block in for machine work, which the block work I don't think will be terribly expensive but acquiring all the replacement parts eats at the budget  The work I would like to do on the head, however, will probably be pricey.

See Ya,

Mike,I just put together a 460 out of an old Lincoln. Motor was in decent shape to start with, maybe .004,5 taper in cyl. Cut the ridges, dingle ball hone,Installed nice cam thru orig cam bearings, new bearings, chain,CAST rings, eyeballed the end gaps, had intake valves done, only lapped exhaust,no hard seats. No other machine work done.Motor runs fantastic, oil control and pressure great, rings seated instantly, fully expect it to run great for a long time. Typical 60's overhaul. Next to nothing cost wise in this day and age.

Motor before that, another 460 based deal, expensive. All the finest parts and extensive machine work including a super high priced set of rings...Plugs keep fouling on 2 cyl, much blowby, leakdown unexceptable. Final diagnosis is rings never seated on those 2 cyl.
Nothing wrong with cast rings and for your build, that's what I would use.
