Straight Axle
Okay, here's a question for you. How many of you have a straight axle under your car? Where do you get them? (and I did a search first before I asked this question)

straight axle
I know a guy with a 65 Falcon drag car, he used an early econoline front. And I saw a 63 falcon at a show, again with an econoline axle, but with front discs. Never did get to ask him what he used for brakes, but it would seem that a '60s econoline van could be a good donor. Hope this helps, snake.

I'm re-visiting this one. Still searching for info. What years have you used, what steering box, disc or drum.
Judd, I do Thank You for sending me the pics.
Right now I'm in the "Not sure what I want to do with the car" stage. I need all the info I can get.
Too many projects and not enough money!

Straigt Axle
The Econoline will work but they are a little too wide. Most guys run an axle 46" wide,Speedway has a kit with the springs, hangers and axle. Most guys use the early Ford spindles as there are a lot of disc brake kits for them. You can use the stock steering box with a custom cross steering setup. ROY.

Re: Straight Axle
I put an econoline axle in my '63 last spring. Take 7" out of the middle and it will put the springs right under the frame rails. I used the stock econo drums because I like the period look, and cause I now have the same size brakes as a galaxie. The stock steering box works well, look at all the roadster guys running mustang boxes, it's the same box. Transfer the steering arm from the driver's spindle to the passenger's and make a drag link to connect it to the pitman arm and you're good to go. A little welding here and grinding there and you'll have a nosebleed in no time. Also makes headers an easy fit after you cut out the now useless shock towers. And if you're worried about the welded axle, use Arc or Tig rather than Mig. My TIG welded axle has 4300 miles with no problems so far.

Re: Straight Axle
Thought I’d dig this one back up. Since I asked all the questions, I thought I’d answer some.
axle is from a 90’s Jeep Grand Cherokee, I narrowed it alittle. The springs are CJ5, the spring hangers are home made.
Car has been a lot of fun.

Re: Straight Axle
so far, 11.83, 113 at famoso dragstrip, but that was on mickey thompson et streets, and poorly tuned holley 600's. I switched the carbs to 660 center squirters and I'm running slicks. I mostly run flag drop, 1/8 mile.
