squeaking upper a-arm..do I wrap dirty wd-40 soak gym socks?

Post by CAComet1965 »

besides replacing the upper a-arm shaft with one with zerks, is there old school techniques to stop the squeaking.
I've heard of soaking socks in wd-40 and wrapping them around the shaft....

Does the mustang share the same a-arm shaft?
I believe the falcon does.'

Is there a difference between v8 and straight 6 assuming v8 is more beefier....

there's two listed on mac'sauto parts one is $26 and the other is $65....

Or do I just do the entire a-arm? If so, do I have to do both sides?
Do I have to get the car aligned?

Any recommendations? I live in So-Cal and rather pick one up.

V8 and I6 same control arms.
65-66 Mustang use the same arms.
You could replace the shaft but it's kind of a pain. I tried it once and the threads where the end caps screw in were destroyed.
If there's a old Mustang vendor near you can get them there. I believe NAPA carries them too.
Also, I'd replace both. And the lowers while it's apart.
Yes the car will need an alignment when your done.
Good luck!

My dad used to put Palmolive or Dawn dish detergent. I don't remember if it worked or not but he claimed it would work for a while once it oozed around everything .
