Brake Pedal Retaining Clip

Kind of a dumb question, but... I'm pretty sure I took this 5/8" external snap ring off the stud the MC pushrod fits over on the brake pedal. Well, putting junk back together....it's too big...huh...

So I got a couple 1/2 & 9/16 snap rings and the 9/16 seems to fit best (1/2 is a little too tight). Making me wonder if the original "clip" was something other than a snap ring... I've seen the later funky shaped part used with the electric switch, but mine is manual brakes, manual switch.

I definitely want the right clippy in that retaining groove on the stud...yep, little paranoid 'bout it....

Mine has a spring clip holding the sw and push rod on the pin. Also called a Hairpin clip.

Another style that will also work.

Thanks Ron. Huh - they look too big (in the pic) for the little groove... I'm not using an electric switch but that shouldn't matter; I'll order the first one....I have a pile of the latter but dunno that I'm good with that type on a brake pedal.

Am i missing something here? I thought this is what you are looking for, called a Hairpin retainer.

Unless you are talking about the clip that holds the clutch pushrod to the pedal which uses the same clip.

May be...the pin on the brake pedal on does not have a hole for a hairpin or similar clip...it's a groove only.

Sounds like an external C-ring retainer. :?:

That's what I've got on there now (external snap ring). I'm hoping to get a definitive on size...1/2 or 9/16.

I can understand if it only has a groove for clip and no hole for a spring clip. Of all the ones I have worked on they all had the hole and took a spring clip. I just assumed they all took the spring clip.
If you feel creative you could drill a hole for a spring clip. Just drill it where the groove is.

I'm pretty certain mine had the hairpin style clip on it. Weird. Must be a Safari Comet thing!

Well sheeit...I had the pedals out for the hydro clutch install. I painted 'em up...guess I could've missed a wee hole. Does your pedal stud have a groove around it also (in addition to the hole)??

Hey Rocket- the brake rod stud on my 64 Falcon also only has a groove. No hole.
It is retained by a 3/8" "e-clip" like these https://m.advanceautoparts.com/p/dorman ... lsrc=aw.ds

Yeah. That's what I called a C-ring. I knew it was one of those alphabet thingies.

Not to be picky but an C ring goes on the inside of a bore, and E ring goes on the outside of fitting or bolt or pin. Notice the one Joe posted looks like the letter E.

Exactly Jim!
I thought it was a snap ring or circlip...maybe a c-clip. But e-clip?!?
Thank you google!

Hahaha! Thanks Joe...I'll probably leave the snap ring on for now and grab some more e-clips next time I'm at the hardware store. Really, IMO drilling a hole and using the hairpin type clip is probably more secure but none of them should really be prone to fail.
