65 C4 V8?
I have a 65 Comet with a C4 trans and a 200 6, want to put a 302 in it, will that trans hold up or should I look for a C5 or C6? Talking less than 300 HP.

The 6 cyl version of the c4 is not as strong or as durible as the v8 version but could be upgraded to make it so. But as long as you drive it normally and not push it hard it can live just fine behind the v8. If you want to push it hard then swap it to a v8 version c4.

Re: 65 C4 V8?
I replaced the Merc-O-Matic four years ago with a C4 from a 72 Maverick that has a 250 ci six. I have a 68 302 and have not had any problems with it. But as Ron said about it being not as strong as the V8 C4 I don't abuse it. I do sometimes tow a small trailer. I had to buy a torque converter for the six, the input shaft is larger diameter.

Still have that trailer and the top for it. Was out cutting firewood yesterday morning. My body keeps telling me it doesn't like me doing this anymore. But if I don't, not enough firewood for winter. Sometimes it sucks getting old.popscomet wrote:TIM.are you talking about that little trailer that has been in a couple of your pic's?...if so I have one just like it ,do you still have the top for yours?,,,thanks POP
