c6 converters, fe to 385 series
Does anyone know if I can use a 460 c6 converter and install it on a 390 fe c6 combo? I don't know if the crankshaft positions the flexplate further away, closer or the same between the two. The 2 have the same big pilot 1.85 and it looks like the converter to flexplate bolt pattern are the same. I haven't tried to bolt the combo together yet, so if someone knows if this will or won't work please let me know. I did some googling and searched the FE forum but didn't find an answer. Thanks.

The pilot hub's are a different size, at least that was the case on my 66 C6. Are your hubs the same depth?
66 Cyclone GT; 245/60R15's on 15x8's and 215/70R15's on 15x7 Magnum's.

The 460/429 (385 series) had two different pilots. The larger 1.85 first 1968 to early 70's then went to the 1.375. From what you said sounds like you have the earlier converter. From what I have read it should work. Here is a thread where someone said they had a 460 with a converter from a 390.

The converter will work like Lou says. Parts guys didn't seem to know about pilot size differences and somewhere out there is (was) a converter with a free quart of type F and a cork.
