168 tooth flywheel and starter

I have a 65 HI Po 289 and it has a 168 tooth flywheel. NOT 164. what is the inside and outside diameter of the ring gear?
Does it take a special starter?
I read that some 289 hipo s used the 168 for a while then went to the 164.
Can I replace the 168 with a 164 without problems.
My flywheel part number is G5AE-6380-E
