Where do you plan on landing the alternator wire? If you land it on the stock starter solenoid terminal that has the battery feed on, then yes your amp gauge will work like normal.

Thanks Tom, that was what I was thinking , just run the alternator wire, eight gage to battery side of solenoid .

How many amp alternator did you get? Eight gauge sounds small.

100 amp calls for a #4 gauge wire. I doubt if your alternator will ever need to push out 100 amps. I wouldn't go less than a #6 gauge wire navychief.

Installed A one wire alternator in the comet , checked it out ,putting out 14.5 volts , amp gage on dash stays centered , put on headlights and needle goes to discharge ,checked voltage with lights on,still putting out 14.5 volts, why is gage showing discharge ?

Sounds like your gauge is bad or possibly the wire on the back of dash is not snug in the amp meter holder. Could you post a picture of your gauge. Maybe that's what it should do. There is a big discharge when the lights are on.
