best tranny for 302

Post by rapdweasel »

ive decided to put a 302 in my 62 comet im going to buy the engine mounts from dearborn classic so it will fit. as far as i know it will because the 260,289,302 are the same size on the outside. the bell housing is a six bolt. what tranny and clutch setup would work the best i want a 4 spd. im switching it from 3 on the tree to 4spd on the floor. i want a tranny that dosnt require a lot of cutting of the floor. im planning on making a new tranny crossmember. so what would the best 4 spd tranny be.

Best Trans

I would say for best fit a Borg Warner T-10,as that is what they came with.If you want brute strength then a Toploader is the way to go.Get a small block, wide ratio,[278 1st gear] trans as it has the same input shaft size and length as the T-10 or 3-speed.AT-5,5 speed is another option, but it requires more fab work but gives you an overdrive.ROY.

I'd consider a T-5 5-speed lots of kits to adapt them to just about any engine and you get the O.D.
