Post by rapdweasel »

my 62 comet is going to have a 302 with a t5 transmission then i going to swap in a 9 inch rear from a 65-66 mustang. i was wondering is there a stock drive shaft that i can use on this setup. or should i have a custom one made.

Best bet is do alot of measuring, really having one shortened isn't that big a deal, a place in town will do it in a day (at least they used too), I once had them flip my ring gear over and surface my flywheel while I waited, didn't take them too long, but that was the good old days when service meant something.

When I changed to a T-5 from a top loader in my 66 Mustang I did not have to change the driveshaft at all. Do you have one now and how long do you need. If it is 54 inches here is a place that has one if you don't have one now. If the price is very high you could probably have one made for less that $300.

rapdweasel,

I left the 8" rear in my '66 and after i installed the same combo, my original driveshaft fit perfectly. I did have to modify the trans mount a bit to move it back, i also spaced it down a bit so the shifter block on the top wasn't jammed against the hump.

again, my $0.02
