Wanted: 200 tips and hints

Post by Adams »

Hello All--I'd like to have a thread here to pick everyone's brain about swapping out my 144 for a 200. I've got the 200 almost ready to go, just reassembling it. Does anyone have any tips or lessons learned when they rebuilt and installed a straight 6? For example, I just read yesterday to make sure I put thread sealer on the flywheel bolts to keep the clutch dry--stuff like that. Many thanks!

Ok, I've got a specific question--when I replace the timing gears/chain, I know I have to line up the dots on the two gears. When that is done, is the motor now at TDC compression stroke, or not? I read on another site that when the dots are aligned, you are 180 degrees away from TDC compression. And that to be at TDC compression (best for fitting the dizzy), the dots basically need to both be "on the tops" of their gears (if that makes sense). And that you only install with the dots closest to each other because it's easier to see that way...
