170/250 swap 62 comet?

Post by sharkskinman »

Locally here in new orleans I found a 250 straight 6 out of a van
Waiting for more info..but
http://neworleans.craigslist.org/pts/4238991210.html

Im guessing I can get fairly complete from carb to exhaust manifold

Can I swap that 250 for my 170 with minimal or no modification besides exhaust

By looking at some images of the manifolds, it looks like a little modification would be needed to meet the 350 flange but I think that would be it. I'm sure someone who has more hands on will chime in with a better answer though.

250 is taller...may not fit under the hood without a scoop. Measure twice, cut once!
62 Comet 4dr Base...Current PROJECT...wife's car..intalling 200 6cyl and a T-5.

IS the 250 as big as the 240,I've owned both but have forgotten, the 240 and the 300 are the same size...pop

My dad had a 240 CI in a his '68 and '71 F100s. Huge engine compared to the 200 in my mums '65 Falcon.

I found this link to another forum that may assist. Talks about hood and radiator clearance issues.

YES,am aware of the size of the 240/300,and had a 250 in a 1975 f100,that a friend had put in there,it made such a great little PU,that I bought it from him....but later the bug caught me and I put a 65 289 with a 4spd and power steering in it,it still was a great pu,that 250 is a good 6 cyl motor,I have a 300 in my 88 4wd,,you can not keep gas in it,it has 2 tanks and needs 2 more :? But MY overall favorite is the 240 6cyl,4spd od with a 3.70 rear gear, had all that in a 71 swb, pulled tractors, race cars ,race trucks, hunting jeep and a 2 horse trailer with mine and wife's old nags in it.....in fact ,I'm thinking about pulling this souped up 390 out of my 66 swb and finding a 240 and swapping it out..but gotta find that buildable 240 1st.....thanks BJB,,have a nice one down under !
