4100 on my 170??

Probably needing a new carb

62 comet 170

Would a 4100 be a good upgrade?
or what from a 1909 would be a good viable upgrade??

That's way too much carb for that engine. Even a 2100 would be a stretch.

Maybe a 1940?

I have never had any luck getting parts or kits for those carbs. I got one on ebay once for a 144. I have a couple of them but I think they've already been robbed of the stuff you need. Check with Clifford Perf or the other InlinePerf? I know you are driving it but I'd get a later 200 and build it. A 200 can really rock. That is a cool Comet.
