need carburetor help

Post by lizzy »

First I believe I have a 144 engine in my 1962 Comet, however not completely sure..(the VIN # says 144) .Looking to rebuild the carb and took it to napa and they cannot find a match. Right now I am getting the numbers off the carb and hoping it can be matched up. I have read elsewhere that there is a letter on the block that will tell me if its a 144 or 170, however cannot locate this letter. any help would greatly be appreciated. This is the exact car (as in the original one) I owned over 16 years ago, very nice to have it back....it is just in far worse shape than when I last owned it..

There should be a casting number on the block that could help decipher what engine you have. Might be down by the starter. Should be multiple characters and start with C1... Or C2...
Once you find it post it here so we can dig further.
If your carb has a number on the base or a tag post those numbers too.
And a pic would help also.
Good luck!
