I have a 63 comet with a 170 that only stalls after warming up at stop lights. Thought it was maybe vapor lock so I re-routed the rule lines away from the engine. Did not fix the issue. Runs perfect on the open road with excellent acceleration Any thoughts? Could it be the carburetor?
thanks

Re: 170 & carb issues
Hey Cometdog,
I have a 170 in my '62 Comet with a Holley 1909 carb. I rebuilt the carb last year and had some "stumbling" upon acceleration that I couldn't get rid of. After checking everything over 2-3 times and scratching my head for a while, I read about installing a larger main jet. I guess it compensates for the lack of power in the newer gas. I went to a 122-64 main jet, two sizes larger than standard. It seemed to solve my problem.
