Distributor Question

I bought a 63 comet with the small 6(have not had it long and im historically a chevy man). There is a Ford mastercraft module that is mounted to the driver's inner fender well. It is clearly more modern than the car. There are only a couple wires connected and one of them goes to the distributor. It looks like some one tried to make some sort of upgrade. If so, it was poorly done. Thoughts?

Sounds like someone installed a Duraspark ign. Should be an electronic trigger inside the dist cap. Common on fords. Some like them some don't. I prefer the Pertronix ign modules but that's me.
