I just rebuilt the 170 in my '61 and she is not wanting to start. I am using a remote starter switch and she sounds like she wantes to start but stutters and stumbles and wont idle.
I confirmed that it is at compression stroke TDC and the TDC mark on the balancer is dead on as well. I indexed the dizzy so that the rotor is pointing at # 1 on the cap. I checked the points, which are gapped properly. I adjusted my valves twice just in case, per the instructions at classicinlines.com
http://www.classicinlines.com/ValveAdj.asp
I have spark from the coil to the dizzy. I am getting gas to the carb and the accelerator tube is squirting gas when I move the accelerator linkage by hand. I cant tell if gas is coming out of the carb into the intake manifold. There is gas in the fuel bowl in the carb and I cleaned out the jet as well as the float cutoff valve. All that looks good. She still wont start even if I pour some gas into the carb. The carb ran prior to the rebuild when it was on my 144.I took it off the 144 to go on the 170
If I happened to be off a tooth on the cam when I indexed it with the crank and timing chain, would it cause the above symptoms?
I found a video thats appears to have the same issues mine has
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Og55qPRmXmg
I am at wits end and any input would be appreciated

You might check your plugs to make sure you haven't fouled them with all the gas.
also check fire at the plug while you have one out, be sure & ground it on the engine. need a good spark.

Re: Rebuilt 170 Wont Start
Thanks for the tips. Ill try everthing this Friday.
When the carb worked on my 144, I was using the stock dizzy that was on the car. The carb is a Holley 1908 with the spark control valve. During the rebuild, I bought another distributor from Autozone. Does anyone think that maybe the aftermarket distributor isnt matching with the carb with the spark control valve?
Here is the distributor:
