Replacement fuel tank

Post by luc3ch »

I ordered a Spectra F28 fuel tank for my 1964 Caliente 2 door and it is the wrong size. Too small. It's for a Falcon.
Anyone tell me what the right fuel tank is for this year and body?
They seem to be hard to find.

The old tank has been fiberglassed over rust through and I won't keep it that way. Old resin is soft and gooey and vapors are leeching out bad.

I just found an old thread about this that says to refurbish the tank using a KBS rust seasl kit. Might be my only option.

If anyone knows of a new tank I can buy please let me know.

I put a link to one on ebay above,here it is again

If your going to redo your old tank keep in mind what all can happen in 50 years. I would have it vatted out by a radiator shop. here is one I cut open;

It's awesome they're making these in steel now!
Buy it now because they'll stop making them someday ...just like the steel 4 speed humps! :cry:

Yup you nailed it. I just hit the Paypal link and ordered. Should have it next week which gives me time to drain & remove the old one. Then I have lots of working room in there to mount my battery box and cable kit and clean up the trunk good.

I hope the Spectra sending unit I have on order will fit this tank. I don't see why not.

Best thing you could do for lots of trouble free rides.You did yourself a big favor. can you imagine how many filters all that junk in the pic above could fill up? rat & wasp nest together & dried ...gas? rust, dirt,,, there was even a trunk lock in there! :shock: :roll:

Got the old tank out today. Someone years ago screwed in some patch panels and fiberglassed the floor over the tank so this was as big dirty job.

Need to put better steel in there, seal prime & paint, and get ready for the new tank.
