65 comet hood molding
65 comet hood molding
I have the cyclone style hood on my 65 and I have the molding to attach but I do not know how to attach the molding. Does anybody know if there are special clips to attach the molding on the fiberglass hood? Also there are not any inserts in the air intake on the hood. I was going to have inserts laser cut but if there is already something out there to buy it will save me the design time.
Re: 65 comet hood molding
It is attached with screws with special heads that fit in the trim & have a nut on the hood side.
I dont know of any inserts for your scoops.

Do you know anybody that sells the special screws. Do you know if there are the same as a mustang?
Re: 65 comet hood molding
No I don't know where to get them. I'm sure there are some universal trim screws that would work.I've seen some trim screws with cut to fit heads...somewhere . maybe someone will chime in with an answer. it is possible that something for a mustang would work.

Hey John the folks that made your hood were also offering inserts. I forget the name and I didn't find any of their hoods on eBay.
They had a website that listed the inserts for sale.

Oh now I see!
Re: 65 comet hood molding
Thanks everyone. I will let you know what I use for the molding and I will put up pics of the inserts after I build them. My new rack and pinion stopped turning left so I have a couple weeks to work on other projects while that gets sent in for repair. I am going to draw up the inserts first and see if one of the machine shops I work with will laser cut them.

You just have too plan your trips better.thrnelson wrote:My new rack and pinion stopped turning left
I worked for a well drilling company when I was younger and they had a tool truck that didn't turn right very well (after sometime in the past it had gotten stuck and they attached a tractor to the front axle too pull it out of the mud, the axle came not the truck), I always tried to plan my routes to make left turns
See Ya,

Well I drove that old GMC truck all summer it was a 2 ton twin screw with a dual range transmission (I think that is what they are called or it was just an overdrive, it had a second shifter) it had a 1,000 gallon water tank on back and several drill stems. someone failed to center the steering sector I would guess when they reassembled it.
I was probably in the best shape of my life that summer having to heft those 400 lb drill stems around which was quite the chore when we came back out of the hole if the well was too deep.
