Vapor Barrier

Post by tomb22 »

What do you guys use for a vapor barrier between the door panels and the door? I've seen where they caulk around the door and then put heavy clear plastic over it. Do they have something new and easier now?

Well they've been working pretty good in the shower!  but I covered up the ones in the car with the panels so I haven't seen them since

Ugh, Poboy's on a roll.

We did similar though. I used heavy visqueen (cause we had some around) and I think we used seam sealer to tack it down. That was probably an expensive use of seam sealer, but, again, that's what we had.

Difficult to gauge effectiveness, but I suppose it keeps direct water off the inside door panels, etc. and cuts down on wind? We used it under the arm rest panels in the back seat and I'd say it helps keep wind out in winter. Probably should have used it under the front kick panels, but I don't think they did that one at the factory.

Did you guys do anything for sound deadening in your door panels?

I did and I didn't cover the hole door but put a couple of big pieces inside it. The type that sticks with a foil on the outside. I can't believe how well it works.

We did not. Never even thought about it. How would that not make the door too "thick" to put the panel back on? or does it go inside against the outside wall of the door?

Yes it goes on the inside skin of the door, they say you don't have it cover the whole door and it works the same to deaden the sound.
