Post by johnef805 »

Hi everyone!! I got this car with a bill of sale and it needs lots of work. I think it needs everything. I just got started on it is a K code with all matching # it needs a new rebuild motor I will get this one rebuilt. Needs new floors and rust holes to fix. The a-arm is bent so front end work. That's the beginning.
I am happy to find this site because I will need lots of help : )

Welcome aboard! Like John said, looks like it's got a pretty good body on it. To me, that's more important than whether it's got mechanical issues. Mechanical parts are fairly easy to come by. Body parts, not so much. Good luck with it, and keep us posted with pictures of your progress.

I too dig the grille black but like the way Mike left the light bezels and connecting band bright in his photoshop.

Nothing like a '64 2Dr Sedan, my favorite :P

It does look like a really good starting point, wish my quarters were that nice.

Hi all.. I have been working on my comet and finally got it put in my name :D I have the engine out and on the picker, tomorrow I will put it on the engine stand.
Block casting # is C40E-6015 F The piston bore is 4" I was wondering about how much it would cost to go 20 over and have the machine work and heads done ? What would be a good cam and pistons for it. Thanks for any help.

Probably varies depending on location, but I'd say about $800 bucks on the machine shop for a basically stock rebuild. I'd do as little as it takes to clean the bores up...if .010 will do it...roll with that! For pistons, look for something with a 1.6xx compression height to boost compression. This is what Fooorrd did to vary compression on the 2V vs 4V engines.

I wouldn't go over ~.450 or so lift on the stock, press-in rocker studs. The old Comp Cams 268H (NOT the XE series) is IMO a good choice. That, a Weiand Street Warrior and the new Summit 500cfm annular, vac-sec carb should wake the 'ole 289 right up! :D :D
