Re: 66 Pace Car Info Wanted
100 made. 33 parade car's with flag mount's on the rear bumper bracket's. The color's were all the same. Red, light parchment interior, and I think they were all 3.25 rear gear. It's been a long time since I built mine. The production date would be just before the Memorial day race and a Midwestern plant. The vin code is a 28 not a 29. I have all the periodical's from back in the day filed away. In fact, one of the magazines did a shoot out with the other 66 muscle car's. Holman Moody showed up with the Cyclone stating Ford wanted them to make sure everything was tight on the car; right. It's a great read.

Re: 66 Pace Car Info Wanted
So, I've googled conflicting information regarding the flag brackets... Some say drilled into bumper some say drilled into frame?
If anyone has a picture, that would be great.
Thanks!

Also, I was trying to make sense of the stampings on my inner fenders and I noticed a post where someone decoded the left apron.
I'd appreciate any info to decode.

The flag brackets mounted to the frame. I have/had a magazine article with a photo somewhere. And there are online vin decoder's. Just curious, does the door tag match the fender apron vin?

Hi,
Yes everything matches. Also, there are yellow crayon numbers under the hood - does anyone know what they mean?
Left side seems like an production number and right side seems like date.
(Can you post or PM me the article with the flag mounts?) I think mine has them, but just want to confirm.
Thanks!

Re: 66 Pace Car Info Wanted
I have two 1966 28S cars, one 4 speed in storage and one auto in my garage. Both built in April 66. The auto in my garage has 4 leafs, I can check the 4 speed car next time I go to storage garage. (yes... it is an authentic 28S 4 speed car)
Meanwhile, I have spoken with Holman & Moody as well as Bud Moore's family - I got a lot of great info. I also had a very interesting conversation with Fran Hernandez's son. Fran Hernandez (google him) was in charge of Ford's SVO (special vehicle operations) and built the 66 comet pace cars as well as many other experimental and significant ford & mercury race cars. I am gathering a lot of actual information that helps debunks all the pace car myths.
*(During our conversation he told me his dad actually brought the pace car home for a period of weeks and parked it in the driveway where he took it out numerous times on the streets of Detroit!)
