First time Comet owner from Texas

Post by HenryJ »

I'm 51 and I've been messing with mustangs my whole life. I've always loved the look of Mercury Comets, but never owned one until this past weekend I bought my 64 Cyclone restomod and I love it!!!
A little bit about the car:
never had any rust and appears to have all original body panels with amateur single stage paint job
302 and 5sp from a 93 mustang with EFI
8.8 rear end of unkown origin
custom gauge bezel and gauges (replacing back to original)
incorrect steering wheel (replacing with an original)
dash tach (replacing)
rear window defogger
factory ac (works very well!)

I'm sure I'll have plenty questions as I get familiar with the car.

Thanks poboyjo65, I could be wrong, but I didn't think the tach was original. For some reason it's not letting me add any more pics to the original post or to this reply. I'll try again later from a different computer.

Maybe the pics are too big,you may have to re size them. A host like postimage is another way.

Thanks poboyjo65, I could be wrong, but I didn't think the tach was original.

You are correct, the tach you have looks to be a ‘65 Cyclone tach, actually part of the three guage pod that was offered on the ‘65 models. (Tach, clock, vacuum guage)
You mentioned it has the incorrect steering wheel, is the column original or is it a tilt? Looks like you could use a speedometer/guage panel, tach, and Cyclone steering wheel, those are not easy items to find. I may have a ‘64 tach if you are interested. Where are you located?

Great looking Comet!!
The small 65 style tach could be had all alone or as part of the 3 gauge Rally Pac as AFX stated. If you decide to sell it I’ve seen them go for around $300-400 on eBay.
