‘64 Falcon Track Project
Re: 64 Falcon Project
Re: 64 Falcon Project
Wading through the metal dust, sparks and blood.
Full floor is in (in sections) along with both sides inner rockers. Now I'm cleaning up the ugly parts and re-welding where needed. Also, the rear part of my tunnel was toast. So I bought a universal tunnel section from Macs. It needed massaging to match the Falcon contours...but close enough.
Still need to cut out the 4-speed tunnel cover access hole.
Don't look too closely at my welds

And this pics for fun

Some progress-
The 302 is just about done.
pc screenshot
Got the tunnel fixed where mustang auto shifter was. Cut the hole and fitted a 4 speed steel cover
image free hosting
Cut out the tower braces and installed an export brace and MC bar. Also reinforced the cowl where the brace mounts
image free hosting
Also installed gussets at the outer side of the shock towers to the frame rails.

Re: 64 Falcon Project
Moving right along! bravo Joe! I wanted to put metal in my towers like your gussets mainly to keep out dirt & moisture, but I forgot it until after I had started coating it,so I didnt want to back up Mine was packed with dirt, grease & a few shims. Another thing I found behind the steering box on the framerail was a little wrench.
Your gettin there Joe! keep it up!!!

Re: 64 Falcon Project
Looking good man!! You gonna widen the radiator support hole for a bigger rad?
Re: 64 Falcon Project
Thanks John!
I'm also going to weld in some reinforcement straps on the engine side of the shock towers. They don't make a kit for our cars but similar to this http://opentrackerracing.com/product/sh ... 1967-1970/
I'll be doing it the old fashioned way- blood, sweat, tears and a big azz hammer

Thanks!!Rocket989 wrote:Looking good man!! You gonna widen the radiator support hole for a bigger rad?
I haven't thought of cutting a bigger hole. I have a bitchen Fluidyne aluminium radiator that fits the stock hole. And I'll be running an oil cooler. Think I need a wider radiator?
Your killing me JH!

Re: 64 Falcon Project
I added filler panels in that same place but they are only sheetmetal. Sealed and screwed in place. Not intended for strength just to keep dirt and water from collecting in that pocket and causing rust. Even added drain holes for water in case any got in there. Some of the real early falcons came from ford with those filler panels. Then ford quit adding the panels. I guess they (ford) decided they wanted them to rust out sooner so you buy a new car.

Re: 64 Falcon Project
Thats what I'd do!! So PCV hole measures 1-1.100 on valve covers...most parts stores sell a Dorman Foooord PVC seal replacement. The vent tube OD measures 1.420 but I'd try to get a "middle" measurement on available push-in breathers. If I get one I'll post!
I noodled on the VC's and the gussets would be easy enough out of 14 or 16-ga. sheet, but it's hard to tell from the pics how the breather tubes are attached. Looks like lip on top, maybe crimped on bottom. For the $$$ those repros cost - I'll keep thinking on the tubes. You care if they have the angle or is straight OK??
BTW - Any details you feel like sharing on the 302...I'll gladly read!!
