Correct balance weight

Hello, I am building a 347 for my comet and I am wondering if the stock 289 was externally or internally balanced from the factory, the new 347 in building needs a 28oz external balance and if the stock 289 used the same then I can use the same harmonic balancer on the new engine, thank you.

yea you can use your old balancer. but it's a good idea to get a new one. I bought my 347 stroker in a kit, came with its own balancer & flexplate (28oz), & is what it was balanced with , & tested up to 10,000g rpm, so I wanted to stay with that one . usually they have both 3 & 4 pulley bolt hole patterns.

Thanks for the response! I bought the engine from a friend of mine and it’s basically a short block and it didn’t come with a balancer so I’m trying to use whatever I can from my old engine to save as much money as possible.

as long as it is 1980 & earlier. after 1980 or so they went to a 50oz balancer & flywheel.
