spark plugs

Post by rjones35 »

This might be a dumb question for all you Ford guys, but I'm wondering about plugs. This is a 302 I bought used, don't know much about it, supposed to have a little cam, sounds like it does. I'm still messing with the 3x2 setup, getting the carbs figured out. Unilite with 60k coil. The engine came with AC 26 plugs in it, so thats what I put back. It takes a long time, actually 5 minutes or so, before it will run by itself. I'm wondering if a different plug would help, and rather than trial and error it, I'm asking your opinions?? Thanks!!

Sounds more like the carb(s) to me... I've always had good luck with Autolite or Motorcraft plugs. MC part # is SP-450.

It probably is carb related, I'm still jacking with those too. Just seems like it should stay running by itself sooner than it does.

They are autolites, I don't know why I was thinking AC.

26 is a hotter plug. IIRC, 25 is the stock plug...I'd use those! 5-min or so is a long time. Does the center carb have a choke? Any vacuum leaks? What temp thermostat are you running?

No vacuum leaks, I don't remember the thermostat, 180 or 190 I think. I will try switching plugs though, along with working on the carbs more.
