Has anyone ever tried to install a classic mustang exhaust kit by Magnaflow into a 65 Comet. I won a magnaflow gift card at a raffle and would like to purchase a 3 inch exhaust kit from them. They just don't list one for any Mercury products.
I guess I will attempt to do it.

NO it WONT FIT! just send me that card! but seriously, I'd get it & make it fit if it was free or dirt cheap. 3inch? do you have a big block or big cubes? if you have a small block a 2 1/2'' would be better, easier & cheaper. they say you lose low end & mid-range with too big of tubes.

Depening how the pipes route they could be hard to fit espexially 3". Even 2 1/2" could be tight.

I am building a pretty hot Cleveland 393 with Scott Cook Heads. Should be between 550-600hp range. I haven't purchased the kit yet. I talked with a guy name Jason from Magnaflow today. The 65 mustang 3 inch kit runs under the axle on one side for some reason. I was considering just dumping it before the axle and using the x pipe and mufflers from the kit. The 69 mustang kit runs above the rear axle on both sides. I have been going back and forth between the 3 inch and 2.5 inch. I was also considering 3 inch to the mufflers and 2.5 out the back.

For something like that I'd use 1 7/8-2" primary long-tube headers and 3" exhaust for sure!!

If you are running leaf spring rear suspension, they may fit!I have 3" on my 65 COMET,but they dump at the ladderbar crossmember as there is NO room past it!I run an X pipe and race bullits but I have run Magna Flow oval mufflers too!I run a 418"Windsor and use 13/4 to 17/8" stepped headers to a 31/2" collector with 31/2X3" reducers! Re: MagnaFlow Classic Mustang Exhaust kits
I run a dual 3" system on my 64 with X pipe & 2 hooker aerochambers in front of the diff, then 2 1/2" over the diff to the rear bumper, I chose the 2 1/2" for the tailpipes cause I thought there was not enough space for 3" but after the exhaust guy finished the job he said 3" would have fitted, ends up the 2 1/2" was a good choice it takes enough power out to run the times I want to run (11.0s) & makes it easy to drive to the track & not have to change anything, if its a bit slow I can drop the tailpipes & pick up about 0.15 sec on the 1/4, I also have 1 7/8" headers going into 3 1/2" collectors. Re: MagnaFlow Classic Mustang Exhaust kits
I have the pypes 2 1/2" Mustang one in my car had to cut the pipes before the x pipe and spread them out to make them fit, also had to lengthen the tail pipes some. They went right over the rear axle in my car.
Hope this helps

Thanks everyone for the responses. I pulled the trigger on a 2.5 inch kit. Only cost me out of pocket 32.00 to ship. Can't beat that deal!!! Maybe I should have went with the 3 inch. I probably wouldn't notice the difference anyways.
