i plan too,I have all the bits and pieces Just waiting for the rest of the car to be closer to completion before assembly

I just installed a 331/T5 in my 63. I haven't driven it with this combo yet. I still need to wire the FiTech and the MSD box.

What are you looking to know? I have a 347 which is the same principle just a longer stroke. I've been happy with mine only thing I would do different would be to spend a bit more money and get the forged crank from scat.

I have a 62, and am trying to figure out all the parts needed for suspension upgrading to the v8. going with 5 lug disc.

OK maybe you should start a post asking that question, I have a 65 so I'm not much help there but if you have a thread stating what you need to know someone will be better able to help.

At least you will need v8 tie rods, spindles and a v8 rear diff

A solid and inexpensive route is the CSRP kit that includes new spindles and Granada-type front brakes. From there, I would assess anything else that needs to be replaced & definitely use '65 steering (Mustang stuff except for the center link). The upper/ lower control arms, coil springs etc are all std 'Stang stuff. If you have original, bronze, grazeable spring perches...keep 'em! On the strut rods I'm not sure which ones the 62's used. If they're adjustable...keep those too! :D

The steering box should be 1-inch sector so you're good there. You can install a Shelby "quick steer" idler and pitman arm to get a better ratio out of a std. 5-turn manual box (or use said parts on a 4-turn "power steering" box but they're very hard to find...you can buy a new one from Flaming River and you've got other aftermarket options also).

I believe you can buy the full V8 motor mount kit as a retrofit from the later cars also (frame/ engine brackets).

I used the csrp kit with the 65 steering components. Flawless kit. The 5 lug is great for saftey and for finding wheels. It still seems to ride high but it's probably from it still not being aligned properly. The braking imo is great once you get the prop valve set. Money well spent for my car. If it's going to be fast I want the front end right. Kit was complete with everything you could possibly need besides tools.

ok stupid question time......the 289 and the 302 are the same block, and journal? have the opportunity to pickup a 289 and a c4 trans for $350 and curious if the 289 can be stroked to a 331.?

Sure can - blocks are more or less the same!! A bonus is the 289 block is stronger than the later "5.0" 302 blocks ('81 and up I think). The only real caveat is the wide radius on the lifter bores if your using a roller cam (though plenty of link-bar lifters have the oil hole low enough).

I haven`t it measured myself but have been told the bore is shorter on 289 blocks so if you run a stroker in them the piston is not supported completely at the bottom of the stroke

Others might chip in, but I used a 97 explorer setup I bought for 225 bucks. I am engine machinist by trade so was able to measure the cylinders on this 200k mile motor and had very little wear. A lot of newer castings have a lot better properties metallurgical. I was able to rebuild this motor with zero machining and have no problems. If you can find one of these motors that came out of a wrecked vehicle it would be hard pass up unless you just wanted Era correct stuff. Plus the great gt40 heads that come with them. Just giving you some food!

I run a 331 and have never had a problem. I'm sure I used a 302 block. Had to notch the cylinders with a dremel tool to clear the rod bolts. Only real problem is you need a rev limiter or you end up doing 9000 rpm burnouts. Hard on valve springs :roll:
