Any dyno number's for a 347?

Post by Lip Ripper »

I'm looking at one with Twisted Wedge head's. I've seen some high hp claim's but I'm looking for real world street driven number's and fuel mileage. The 5.0 is ready to go in the Falcon but this engine is tempting me.
66 Cyclone GT; 245/60R15's on 15x8's and 215/70R15's on 15x7 Magnum's.
There's nothing like the sound of a pushrod V8 singing at the top of her lung's.

Depends on which TrickFlow heads. A buddy had one with 11R190 heads, RPM intake QuickFuel 650, 9.8:1 compression, and an fairly tame hydraulic roller cam. Through a T5 and 8.8 rear it made a tick over 360-rwhp. I can get get the specifics if ya want 'em. He did split the block though and this wasn't a drag car...semi-daily driver!

You hear claims of 500 flywheel HP being the "limit" for the roller blocks. IMO I wouldn't push more than 400 flywheel...basically 300-325-whp. Aftermarket blocks ain't cheap but neither is building it twice! Also, 331's are supposed to have a better rod angle. Seen plenty of both run good and a lot of broken blocks, mostly with the 347''s though. Probably more about power vs. anything else but something to think about.

Agreed. I've already told myself the 5.0 is going back in the Falcon. This 347 engine and new C4 performance tranny are priced well. The tranny costs $3400 and he's asking $1300 (still in the box). I think I'll still pursue it and put it in the garage. Maybe good bracket car stuff. I don't like the fact that it is Eagle stuff. I've heard negative about them. Scat seems to be the right way to go.

There are some on youtube with numbers. here is one of our own guys with youtube link to his 475hp 347;

I have a 347 in my 65. I wasn't out for a stem winder as Pop calls them , & is probably what you have in mind, but I wanted a good fun street motor. Rpm heads, airgap intake,600 cfm 4100, retro fit roller 283 thumper 1900-5600 rpm,10.4:1 comp,Eagle stroker kit ,cast crank with I beam rods, KB flattops.it's more of a street kit, but I can have tons of fun under 5 grand.so I don't need forged internals but still makes loads of good clean fun torque . But if I ever get the itch to start going to the track some, a different cam wont be near as hard as all the safety upgrades that I would need.
