Headers for '65 Caliente with 289 automatic

Post by '65 Cali »

I need to do exhaust work and have been considering adding headers on my '65 Caliente. Since fit up seems to be an issue I thought I'd ask if anyone has advice and/or experience in sourcing headers for a 289 with 302 heads. The present exhaust, which looks stock, interferes with a lever on the shift for D1 and D2 positions - not a big problem but making me extra careful when looking at changes.

A friend has Tri-Y's but I've read that ones that work on a Mustang may not fit into a Comet. Any thoughts?

Thanks for the information. I'm always impressed with the response on forums like these.

The ones from Doug's look really nice. I'll have to check the project fund.

Some folks have used the Hedman 884xx (88400, 88406, 88408) w/ an auto. Pretty tight by the steering box though IMO (routing the exhaust). Sanderson makes shorty headers that "correct" the collector angle vs. the Hedman (steeper angle so doesn't drop right next to it). I'm waiting for feedback from a guy that used 'em in a '64 Falcon 302 & C4...been waiting awhile though...
'cause Johno says you gotta have a sig pic! :)
