5.0 HO in my 65 Cyclone or not?

Hi guys

I picked up a 40k mile 1992 5.0 HO with AOD. The intention was to put this into my 73 250 6 pot Maverick

But now I am considering the 5.0 & AOD for my Cyclone with a few choice mods instead! The 65 currently has its original motor which would then be pulled & used in the Maverick.

Whats everyones thoughts on this, yes or no ???

Cheers Al

I’d give your musical chairs a big thumbs up!!! A 5.0 with 40K? I’d already be pushing the cherry picker......

    Looks like the Maverick is getting an A code then :P

I was more worried about originality and if it affects the value ?!?

Also will the AOD go in the 65 tunnel or will it need relieving?

Not an AOD expert but the tunnel might need a little BFH’ing towards the front!!

I just put a 302 with a AOD in my 65. Had no problem with the tunnel but had to rework the long tube headers. The AOD is wider then the C4.

Thanks Tom

Which headers did you use? And im guessing you had to alter the crossmember as well?

Im not worried about such mods, its just nice to know what lies ahead :)

The headers are a set of Doug long tubes that came on the car with a 260 in it, so I don't have any numbers.
Here is a picture of the redo on the cross member. Used the same cross member, but lowered it a little and welded a piece of heavy angle iron to it to mount the transmission mount on to it.

I had taken a AOD and installed the guts of a 4R70W in it to beef it up. I used the 4R70W output shaft so I had to use the 4R70W tail shaft housing, which is shorter. In the end the 260/C4 drive shaft fit perfect.
