Weird Port blockage in Exhaust runners

Post by 62Cometman »

Hey guys so I got in a set of 289 heads with the later 1.780 and 1.480 intake and exhaust valves. I was disassembling them today and noticed that in the exhaust runner there is a large bump that i can figure out why its there. Its not there for the coolant passages. Its not there for a threaded hole or anything and its obviously not there for oiling and i can not figure out why its there? Was hoping you might have some ideas. And if it doesnt serve any purpose like i think it doesnt then I should just be able to grind it away to increase my exhaust efficiency.

I think those humps were for IM air injectors. Used on certain vehicles.

I agree, for EGR. They were casting for the future. I ground them out of my 351W heads back in the day.
