Here's a wrench to this old tale. My nephew called last night. He just bought a 64 Caliente conv. with a K code. He is the 3rd owner.
66 Cyclone GT; 245/60R15's on 15x8's and 215/70R15's on 15x7 Magnum's.

POP'S,cal is a k code,,,am the 4th owner ,but the 3rd to ever title it,the guy I got it from never lic it,,,my comet still has the orginal engine in it,it was a4bbl 289,with flat tops and with 63 289 heads with the small chambers and valves,my comet has a early built date...sept 20,1963,,,,,,,I've changed a few things ,but I still have the orig short block and heads in it..........

It probably is a K-code but a Merc 64 K-code was a D-code Ford Stang engine from what I have read in multiple forums. Ford did not allow the Merc divison to use the 271HP 289 in 1964. The 271HP K-code has solid lifters.
