Factory 2V aluminum intake on 260??

Post by Creedmoor »

I was tidying up under the hood and noticed that the intake manifold finish looked slightly different than the block. On a whim I touched it with a magnetic pick up tool. It ain't a cast iron manifold. So, my question is - Did a 260V8 with a 2V 2100 in a 2 door 1963 Custom have a factory aluminum manifold??

LOOK on the intake for the built year,if it starts with a C it's a 60's casting....like C3..which stands for 1963.....pop

Yep, it has a C3. So it's a 1963 intake. I'm just wondering, was an aluminum intake stock? I figured the price point on these cars in 1963 would mean a basic cast iron intake. I mean back in '63 wasn't aluminum kinda exotic for intakes on budget cars? Or on any passenger vehicle back then.

Most likely someone changed it. Aluminum intakes were not used on stock vehicles. Usually only special models got anything other than a cast intake.

Thanks. Why would someone spend the bucks on a 2V aluminum intake when a 4v is basically the same price. I mean if you're going to go to the time, expense and trouble to change to an aluminum manifold, why wouldn't you slap a 4V setup on there???

I searched my old Ford records, and the internet, could not find an aluminum 2 barrel manifold for a 260.What I did find was a 2 barrel aluminum intake for an 83 302 Ford.Could be "One of those things",that slipped through the cracks!!! ROY.

California,
I have the part # for that intake: C3CE-9425. The only other markings on it are the cylinder #'s, Ford logo, firing order and a "C" with an "F" inside. Will this help solve the mystery of this manifold? I'm real curious. By the way, will a 302 manifold fit a 260?

Thanks for whatever you can tell me.

Yes,a 302 intake will fit as long as it has small runners as 260 heads are small. The outside architexture on 260s,289s and 302 are basically the same esxcept for the 260 and early 289 5-bolt bellhousing. C3 means the casting was designed in 1963.,none of my old paperwork lists an aluminum two barrel intake, but obviously Ford made some!!!If you go to a four barrel intake stay with small intake runners and a small 450-560 CFM carburator! according to this chart the 3rd digit says it's a re-manufactured part ,from 66-75.

That's strange. Never heard of an aluminium 2v intake manifold. I'll double check my small block book.

Joe I'm thinking it was replacement part. could have been industrial maybe. I've seen 302s on big compressors for jack hammers, 4 cyl.s ran & the other 4 pumped air .

A replacement part, that could explain why an aluminum 2bbl intake is not shown in my old FoMoCo books!!! ROY.

Never heard of a remanufactured intake manifold. Is there really such a thing?

Where did you stick the magnet? There was a plate between the carb and the intake that was aluminum as was the thermostat housing but I've never seen a Ford aluminum 2 barrel intake from that era. It's possible I guess as things were changed a lot back then.
