I'm doing a similar deal with a 410 Mercury FE in place of my 302 that was put in place of a 6cyl .. I'm still missing a z-bar; headers (looking for used; new is just out of my budget) and hoping the tri-power fits under the stock hood (it's a stock tri-power so I'm assuming it'll fit under there).

I had to use an off site picture gallery to get pictures to stick in here. Just use the URL button when making the post and paste in the URL for the image (right click, properties and copy the url).

If yours is a 66 it should handle a BB easier than a 65 and earlier. Still can be trying though.

What type of 4 speed would y'all recommend to hook up to a 390 that's gonna have work done to it?

I don't have one in a Comet yet but I have a toploader in my '66 Fairlane/390. It has about 450hp. The toploader is a '67 RUG-M2 (390 Mustang). I changed it over to all 1-3/8 in/out/main shafts and a rebuild with all new parts. I have drag raced this on occasion going 12.22/113 nailing each gear about 6300. The tranny just lives on. Buying a cheap core and rebuilding it can be relatively inexpensive and have an awesome trans to boot. When you start asking "I need a toploader" that is just a call out for everyone thinking every toploader is worth $1200 and they want to sell it to you. I have $875 wrapped up in my toploader. All new internals, used core and I rebuilt it. I never built a tranny until this one. A buddy of mine owns Toploader Heaven and has a still picture CD to help anyone rebuild a Toploader.
