c-4 trans
I am looking to go with a 289 in my 62 comet. I am wanting to know is if a c-4 will fit, and what all will need to be done? As far as steering column needing to be swapped out. I do not want to put a floor  in. Also will the drive line need to be swapped?
Re: c-4 trans
yes a c4 will fit, just stay away from the ''pan fill'' c4's which have the dipstick tube going in the pan. you want a ''case fill'' c4. Also some early 289's were 5 bolt ,which would need a 5 bolt bellhousing for the trans. you're better off with a 6 bolt then you can use a newer c4 bell & easier to find.

Re: c-4 trans
You can use the original column. Just make a new shift rod. You'll have to modify the cross member too. You're asking about the rear end? An 8 inch out of a 65 stang fit right in the spring saddles of my 62 Comet.
