Firewall Insulation Pad

Post by junkmurray »

1963 Mercury S22 Hardtop.

Working on the heater box and the firewall insulation pad is crumbling as I try to pull the heater box out (and that box definitely doesn't want to come out).

So...general questions:

1. Replace the firewall insulation pad with OEM type or something else?
2. Firewall gasket for the heater blower motor, source? Mine's a bit "crunchy". Saw a Mustang gasket but that's the only one I've seen. Must be the same as a bunch of other Fords but for me seems like I'm on a snipe hunt.

Thanks!

I'm not positive but I believe the 63 heaters are the same as 65's ,which are same as mustang heaters, & this is the perfect time to overhaul the heater box with a new foam kit which comes with a blower motor-to-firewall seal. not expensive & the only difference is the fresh air duct. I ordered an extra one,(fresh air duct) for a mustang, (one comes in the kit) & glued them together & it was a perfect fit. the fresh air duct for the comet is kinda expensive. Your heater will work much better & not let out heat in summer .
& you can get the comet firewall insulation at macs, dearborn or any vendor who sells comet/falcon parts.

Heater boxes are pretty much the same. If a firewall insulator pad is not listed or available, one for early falcons would most likely be the same or close enough to be altered to fit.
