hello,
I am new to the fourm and have a 63 Comet 2 dr hard top with a factory 260 4speed. The car has been off the road for about 25 years but was my wife's grandmothers car. We inherited it about 3 years ago & were curious how common or rare the car might be? I plan to restore the car in the future as soon as I can wrap up a few other projects.

Here are a few pics of the car any input would be greatly appreciated..

As for how rare it is, I'm not sure, but the hardtops were a mid year introduction so that has to make it not so common. Looks like a solid car and would make a great hot rod or stock restoration candidate. Which way do you plan on going? By the way my 67 GT500 was sold new at Richardson Ford in Albuquerque. What part of New Mexico you from?

Thank you guys. I guess I am still not really 100% sure what the car is. I dont think it a S22 because of the bench seat?? Of the production charts I have found I dont really see where the car fits in.

Sassy, love your back halved Comet, very very cool.

Boss/Cyclone,
Thank you, we are in Rio Rancho which is right next door to ABQ. I haven't ever heard of Richardson Ford, but we moved here from up north in 91. My plan is to just do a light resto on it and drive & enjoy the car. If it were more of a rare car, I would prefer to stay closer to original, if it's not, then I can be a little more open to changes.

Impressive fleet of cars you have there, I have 66 GT A code 4 speed Mustang also but it's a coupe. 79K original miles, one repaint and over all a pretty nice old car. I own a few other classic cars but there not Fords so...

Welcome to the forum! I love my 63's as well. I have owned 7 of them over the years. I can't say i've ever seen a 63 Custom with V8 4 Speed and a bench seat. That's pretty rare in my book! It's pretty much everthing but a S-22. Good luck with her! Mark

I believe they changed the name of the dealership to Rich Ford a while ago. I have never been there, just have all the paper work from the car when it was bought new.

The 'CUSTOM" is probably like the later Caliente, any option that was available on the higher model was available on the lower model,I'm just guessing on this, but it seems to follow FoMoCo's mantra!! ROY.

Thank you guys.

So is the custom basically the same as the S22 except no buckets seats? Were all of the coupes or hardtops a S22 or Custom?
The car does have more rust than I would like but nothing I cant fix. It has some rust in the right side inner fender apron and the left rear quarter is rusty around the wheel lip & I'm sure the outer wheel house as well. Sassy like yourself, I do all my own paint & bodywork so that part doesn't really scare me. It seems finding parts will be the biggest obstacle.

Boss/Cyclone,
Oh ok, Rich Ford is still around and thriving, it's up on Lomas and is a good sized dealership.

The S-22 also has the triple tail lights with the oval pot metal ribbed bases and different rear panel trim. There are a couple S-22 emblems of course and the glove box trim says S-22 as well. For the most part, that's it. The Custom basicly got you a little nice interior trim and a couple fender emblems.
