Rocket's Comet Build
Re: Rocket's Comet Build
Let er stay a while if it wants to. for break in period. I think you can post pics from postimg, just cant see the old ones,(old links) hopefully they'll fix those. Time to take some new pics !
Re: Rocket's Comet Build
Had a chance, so took the heap out for some highway cruising. I rolled about 50 miles and had to get back. FYI that’s probably as many miles as I’ve racked-up TOTAL in the last 4-years!
I thought again about swapping carbs last night but just couldn’t do it. I know it’s gonna be like a uncorking a big ole fart can but it’s running good! We’ll do faster later! I worked a few different on/off ramps pretty good and it was fun (the curvy ones)! I left it out to soak up some sun...too much rain/clouds lately!!

Looks great ! like it's raring to go! trying to figure out if you been coon huntin with those fog lights aimed up in the trees or just ready to blast some of these guys with bright blue lights that blind you when you meet them.
Yea enjoy it for a few rides & get some of the kinks worked out then throw the big carb at it.

Heh...nope for catching turkeys when they're sleeping!! Oh...I typed that out loud didn't I??...I'd never do that......
As soon as I get the black interior conversion & all the seat stuff done I'm going to continue cleaning. Once I'm happy enough for now, swapping on the Comet Central front plate!!!

Re: Rocket's Comet Build
Looking good!! 4 years!!!?!?!
Get some miles on her!!
I read somewhere that the original African Safari comets (but 1) were too beat up to return home so they were stored away in a warehouse in Kenya. Who knows for how long!
The one that did return did the Mercury show circuit.

Great to see her on the road.
And here, the fuzz would bust you in a heartbeat for having blue lights. You might check your state law on that.

Back in Black!
I’ve been plugging away at the interior (spartan though it may be) & have whupped a bunch of it!! I didn’t mind Red but the PO (or someone) used a wrong-color almost Orange paint...and the door cards, etc. were in bad shape!!
I’d gotten some nice black panels from A/FX (Jim) about a year ago so figured it was time to get it (somewhat) done! The only before pic I have readily available is from a few years ago when the boys were largely babies!
Before:
After:
I still need armrests & more cleaning but IMO not bad! I did get kicked in the a** with wiring so that’s gotta happen sooner than later!!
ETA: Check the diff between hump/T10 and T5...shifter winds-up pretty much perfect!

Re: Rocket's Comet Build
Damn fine looking interior! Could you reach the shifter before without leaning way forward? Looks great where you’ve got it now.

Re: Rocket's Comet Build
Looks great, Rocket! Did you use a standard Mustang T-5 tailpiece to get that shifter location?

Re: Rocket's Comet Build
Yep, started as a std. T5 out of late ‘80’s ‘Stang. No external changes. I even measured and used a Fox ‘Stang T5 yoke with adapter u-joint on the original driveshaft & it was the perfect length!
