Header install

Post by geralde »

I am in the middle of installing a set of Dougs Tri-y headers on my 64. The engine is a 302 ho with an early c4. The headers are the automatic version. The driver side was too easy but the passenger looks very tight. Should I install the passenger side first? I have the engine lifted and am installing from the bottom. Have the steering linkage all dropped and the roller idler off. Thanks in advance. :D

Well looks like I was only one cuss word away. Actually lowered the engine and it went right in no issues.

Using my Ron Morris knock off motor mounts, I ended up with about 3/8 clearance in all the tight spots. Is this about right?

Well back on the Comet again and It appears one of the header tubes is within a 1/2 of the fuel line. This is a new 3/8 stainless line. Should I move it or wait and see if it's a problem. Thanks.

I made a little heat shield from aluminum angle iron for mine.alum is a good heat dissipater. Ceramic headers are cooler .

They are ceramic but seems awfully close. I may cut the line and splice it and either go through the channel or to the other side away from the headers. Everything you do drives something else if it's not stock. Just a thang as we say around hear.

If you like having vapor lock shutting you down on the road then just leave it as is. I never want a fuel line any where near the exhaust. Get it as far away as possible. Easier to move the fuel line then the exhaust.

Well I don't want to be a Comet literally, so I will reroute the fuel line. Thanks
