Power steering pump identifacation

Post by billybob »

Hello. I want to replace the seals in my 1965 Mercury Comet power steering pump. The engine is a 289. I read that it may be an Eaton but they came out with a front mount and a rear mount. What is the difference between the front mount and the rear mount? Thanks.

Here are some pictures of pumps to help you out.

Check around that website for more information on your power steering pump and anything steering on old Fords.

I believe pumps with the pulley facing rear were on cars with AC. All other cars had the pulleys facing forward... I think. There are a variety of configurations for the reservoir as well (fender mount typical on cars with AC). Top mount on cars without AC. But this is all off top of my head. The stanger site is the gospel.
