65 Steering Wheel Puller - what is the thread size?

Does anyone know the spec for the steering wheel Puller bolt holes?

I cannot find a bolt that will cleanly screw in all the way. I think it is because mine are goofed up a bit from past misuse. I would like to retap them so they work properly.

I have tried 5/16 18 and 24 - both will start but them get bound pretty quickly.

I was not positive so I had to check to be certain but it is the 5/16-24. I checked this spare 65 caliente wheel I have to be certain. same bolt fits my comet & 79 truck. You might have to cut the point off your tap or get a bottom tap since the hole is not very deep.

I had a bolt that was to short for my puller but was the correct threads ,,so I went to HOME DEPOT and bought 2 that would work with my puller......they are not rare or hard to come up with.....good luck.....pop

Super, thanks for the confirm. I think my tap screw will work just fine, I just didn't want to hoark on it unless certain I had it correct.

Just finished cleaning up the threads at 5/16 24 and it's smooth as silk. Many thanks again!
